Germ Alert: Where are the Germs in Hotels?
Everyone knows that hotels, airplanes and taxis are germ fests. But do you know where the most germs are?
Surprisingly, the most germs in a hotel are
- On the the bathroom counters with over 2.5 million bacteria levels in colony-forming units (CFUs),
- The remote control come in a close second with more than two million CFUs.
- Be aware of the full size desks in hotels, which harbor more than space for penning a postcard.
- The smallest colonies of germs are found on the phones of hotels (just 4,252 CFUs). This probably because most people use their own phones these days—except for calling the front desk or room service.
What this means is that you need to use a disinfectant wipe to clean not only the TV remote but the bathroom counters in hotels. As a mild germaphobe, I also clean the handles on all the doors.
